Butter Slime
Oh my! Elmer's has to be having an amazing year! Almost two gallons of glue and what feels like millions of recipes, later we are still making slime mixtures at our house. We then tried Bella's favorite slime recipe (it is a fluffy slime) and added model magic modeling clay. While this one was great at first, as Bella played with it, it became not as stretchy…. and, well, we love it stretchy.
The following clay slime recipe takes a few more ingredients. If you are 12 years old, that doesn't stop you! The more ingredients the better.
Butter Slime Ingredients
- Elmer's White School Glue
- Contact solution (this acts as the slime activator)
- Baking Soda
- Shaving Cream
- Model Magic Clay
You could use food coloring, but instead, we chose yellow colored Model Magic.
How To Make Butter Slime
How do you make buttercream slime? It's super simple! Using Bella's fluffy recipe below, mix about equal parts of Model Magic air-drying clay and slime together.
The fun begins! Mix until the clay is worked into the slime. Be sure to keep the finished product in an airtight container. This is super important because the clay is air-drying clay.
This recipe only lasted a day. Then it became too stiff for Bella's liking.

Butter Slime Recipe
Butter Slime that holds its shape and is not as stretchy as regular slime.
- 2 Tablespoons white school glue
- 2 Tablespoons shaving cream foam
- 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon contact lens solution
- 1 package yellow Model Magic (any color can be used)
-
Mix together glue and shaving cream. Stir in baking soda. Once mixed stir in the contact lens solution. Continue mixing until smooth and stretchy. Break off a piece of the Model Magic about the same size as the slime that was just made. Mix the Model Magic into the slime. The yellow Model Magic gives it the buttery color.
Since the girls love it super stretchy we tried another recipe!
The Winner – 3 Ingredient Butter Slime
Yes, only three ingredients to make a super stretchy butter slime that will hold its shape. It really is just a basic slime recipe with a little soft clay added.
First, we used 2 Tablespoons Elmer's White Glue, 2 Tablespoons liquid starch, and Model Magic. Mix the liquid starch and glue together. This works great in a baggie. It takes some mixing.
Once it comes together, remove the mixture from the baggie and discard any extra liquid. Continue mixing until smooth and stretchy. Break off a piece of the Model Magic about the same size as the slime that was just made. Mix the Model Magic into the slime.
This recipe will make about a 1/2 cup of slime. Keep your slime in an airtight baggie! This butter slime was great days after making.
Watch Slime being made
Are you looking for a way to make butter slime without clay? Watch Bella and her friend make butter slime without the clay. Instead, they used cornstarch.
It never really held its shape, but the girls do share loads of tips and insightful information – like don't get it on your carpet, lol. That is a sure way to get slime production shut down at your house.
Tips for Perfect Butter Slime
- Store in airtight containers
- Remove slime from the carpet by getting rid of the excess with a spoon. Next, pour vinegar over it and gently rub with a rag. If it still remains, pour warm water over it and scrub. Finish up with a carpet cleaner if needed.
- Use liquid starch when you want your slime to last longer.
- Most activators use some form of Borax, so always wash hands!
- If you are trying to figure out how to soften butter slime, you can put it in a bowl and add a little glue, water, lotion, or even hand sanitizer and roll it around until it gets stretchy again.
We have made so many DIY slimes! I can't disagree with the kids, it is super fun to play with. In fact, quite addictive. Are your kids making it, or has it been outlawed at your house?
